Just caught a few seconds of Wimbledon Tennis coverage and they are announcing the names of those in the "royal Box" and expecting the crowd to applaud them.
I could understand if it was a very senior royal or perhaps a Wimbledon star eg Bjorn Borg, Martina Navratilova etc, but why the f*ck would I need to be told a diver like Tom Daley ( for example) or Gary Lineker is there and be expected to applaud him as he stands up and waves to the crowd?

Did the crowd respond with applause or boos?

Something nasty in the woodshed
Watching the ITV4 coverage of some bike race in France, there was a trailer for some crap involving 'celebrities' & sharks, with the strapline "whatever could go wrong?"

And the only answer I could think of was that none of the z-list reality TV rejects & failed TikTok influencer 'slebs' would get eaten.

If you listen to Classic FM, their early afternoon news the other day included who was attending Wimbledon on that day in some or other box. Prompting the usually placid Mrs B to have a mini rant, partly about why this was "news" and who TF were a couple of those named.

Almost reassuring that it least I recognise those names you list, even Tom Daley & Gary Lineker. Most "Celebrities" I see/hear about on TV (program ads) seem to have done little more than make a couple of youtube videos about some make-up brand or cooking pasta and then declare themselves "Celebrities".

Of course it's all madness. People are recognised for what they've done eg Tom Daley gets applause for diving, but for turning-up and watching Wimbledon - hardly an achievement worthy of recognition.

I've been watching people get mad about bands they've never heard of recently.

That was on the BBC too.

Shut the f*ckers down.
Well said :okay:
