If Starmer ends up going as Labour Leader, what next?

At present Andy Burnham is not an MP so is out of the running as next PM

No doubt if there were to be a leadership contest Angela Rayner, Wes Streeting and possibly David Lammy would be interested in standing, but who else? Would Rachel Reeves be a potential candidate? Would Ed Miliband want to be leader again?

The rest of the term of this government could be an "interesting" ride for everyone if Starmer goes.

The meeting of the PLP tonight could well be crucial in shaping the future of the UK over the next 3 years or more

Lisa Nandy?

Louise Haigh?

Shabana Mahmood?

Not seen Lammy suggested elsewhere but that doesn't rule him out.

Would the 1st two of your names have any real chance? Louise Haigh especially after her guilty plea in past to fraud by misrepresentation.

I could see Shabana Mahmood having some appeal in an election, but is she too right for some in the PLP? It suspect if there is a leadership campaign this spring / summer it would be too soon for her

Re David Lammy - as Deputy PM, you've got to think he would have some interest in top job if it became available.

Nandy possibly but I agree Haigh's conviction would be manna for the right wing.

Lammy's position as DPM is, IMO, a sop for moving from the FCDO where he was in a Great Office of State to LC/SoS for Justice which is not, though IMHO it should be. Has he stood before?

I wouldn't under rate Miliband (E) but having been there once before he may decide it's not for him.

That is a wholly different question you are answering.
i struggle to find anyone in Labour, Conservative or Lib Dems that would inspire my confidence.......Where is Screaming Lord Sutch when his country needs him? He selfishly died

Interestingly, some of his election policies eventually came into being; longer pub hours, pet passports, votes at 16 in some places.

I'm afraid Cooper wouldn't get my vote since she's gone all authoritarian.
Even Starmer staying would be a better option than Cooper. Too authoritarian and every time she appears on TV she puts on a really serious voice and comes across as a school teacher who knows none of the pupils respect her.
