Was looking at cars today with the daughter (she is fancying a Mini or a Beetle) and noticed that they had a Tesla S 100D 2018 12,000 miles for £30k. Looks like prices are falling...

7 years old for a car that is likely to need a new battery in future

The failure rate on Tesla batteries is <1%. The battery has a 150,000 mile or 8 year warranty and further extensions to the warranty can be purchased. You are aware that if you buy a 100,000 sports car it's likely to need significant engine repairs in the future...

I'd happily have a £100k S with low mileage that's likely to do many years before having a problem if it weren't for the swastika on the back.

A fool and their money are easily parted.
A brand new Tesla Model S costs less than that, so would you happily pay more for a 2nd hand car?

How do they define "failure"? Many devices with rechargeable batteries specifically exclude performance deterioration with use and consider a "failure" as in due to "defect in materials or workmanship". But some companies will include performance deterioration if you purchase the additional cover. eg Apple standard warranty only covers "defect in materials or workmanship" but purchase Apple Care+ and you get wear over time included except the cost of the additional cover is far more than the cost of replacing the battery.

Batteries that have very little range or failure to accept a charge.

All EV batteries degrade, mostly in the first year or two, then plateau around high 80% of new capacity and will stay there for many hundreds of thousands of miles.

Rarely do they fail to make the vehicle practically unusable

An EV isn't a mobile phone. The battery is vast in comparison. Tesla define failure as losing 30% or more of total capacity within the warranty period. In the event that the battery does have a major problem it can often be solved just by replacing faulty bricks in the battery.

Total battery failure is incredibly rare, and the models most affected are the oldest ones. 2018 is not old for a Tesla. Remember that the S debuted in 2013 so by 2018 a lot had improved in terms of the battery.

Latest update for the SwastiKar seems on point:

There will be a joke in there about making sudden swerves to the right, and the satnav pre-programmed with detailed maps of Poland.

I guess making Nazi salutes doesn't play out so well in Europe... it's getting worse.
I think it's more than Nazi salutes. Things like open support for AfD, like encouraging UK bin burners, closing down USAID and so much more (Trump enabler), serving porn to kids through Twitter, etc. Might not affect everybody directly but he's very clearly demonstrated where he stands.

Agreed, the Nazi salute was just one part of his shittiness as a human.

At least Rattner only made the only silly mistake, and as far as I know no-one died as a result.

Tesla hit with >$250m damages in a Florida court, over a fatal accident caused in part by its autopilot.

Meanwhile in Texas, Tesla and Musk are being sued for securities fraud by shareholders, on the grounds that the effectiveness of the Robotaxi have been overstated in order to support or boost the company's share price and financial potential.

I think there's at least one Musk-loving Tesla owner on here - and I think I might've just spotted them in the wild.

Heading north up the A1 coming back from Newcastle the other day, we were overtaken by a Fashmobile with the single most on-the-nose personalised number plate you could possibly think of. Taking a pic was impractical, but the DVLA can confirm:

I'm guessing the owner has come up with a spurious reason as to why that's OK, like that wee prick who wore the "Not Enough 97" Man Utd shirt to the FA Cup final a couple years ago, claiming his grandad had died at 97 without enough grandkids, which turned out to be bollocks.
