A compelling argument for buying a G6.

Apart from the bit about it looking like the Tesla.

The move to suv type vehicles, away from saloons and estates, does render a lot of modern car design a bit characterless imo. Probably to do with wind resistant design producing the same shapes on cad as you say.

The TCR was a bit of an aberration. I think my grandparents might have bought it for me. Presents from my mum and dad always had to have an educational element (my Dad's influence there). So no Starwars figures. Usually it was stuff that could be built (Lego, Meccano, Zoids, Robotix) or which had an element of physics - e.g. build your own wooden rubber band powered glider.

Never had the space for Scalextric in our house when I was a kid, but I did buy the Aurora mini race track for my son about 35 years ago. Still have it stored away and it still worked about three years ago. If she shows any interest my granddaughter can have it in a couple of years when she's old enough to use it.

IIRC, the most expensive game my brother and I got was the board game Escape From Colditz, and we shared the £4 gift between us, as it was over the limit.

Escape From Colditz was a great game. Similar to PB, a friend across the street had grandparents that owned a toy shop and they had it (going over there to play when they returned from their Christmas visit was great but they never seemed to appreciate how lucky they were). I eventually persuaded by parents to get me it but could never get others in the house to play.

Now I'm feeling deeply deprived - my parents weren't well enough off to buy me Scalextric or similar, so only occasionally played on 'posh' friends' sets. 😭

I had Scalectrix, the basic figure of eight track with two F1 cars. I used to have the catalogue of all the add ons and wanted a skid pan but we couldn’t afford it so I tried to make my own by coating the track with wax polish (which, unsurprisingly, just broke the track).

As did banking the track to >45 degrees so the cars could corner at high speed.

At first, but then experimental me decided it was not steep enough. - I wanted more "wall of death" angle so that excessive momentum from the straight could be carried through.
My 9 year old self hadn't grasped the concept of properly supported track, particularly at the joints. This coupled with my Dad being crap at both making things which could have helped me, but also explaining how I would wreck the track with my experiments, hastened its demise.
