Yep. That’s going to annoy me. And doesn’t seem to be in line with their green agenda.
It will cost me an extra £12 to pick my daughter up from Uni. Plus I have to recharge at expensive motorway charging points.
Still far cheaper and more convenient than public transport.
That's the bit that doesn't seem to be in line with their green agenda.

If they're going to pay per mile they really ought to do it for all vehicles.

They already do in a sense. That's what fuel duty is.

If the maths that increased taxes on betting pay for the child benefit increase (in effect), then that looks like good optics.

I don't see how it's moving the needle much in the right direction to either increase tax revenue or drive growth though. Possibly the most talk about budget (in advance) I can recall and it's basically some minor tinkering as far as I can tell.

I'd have preferred doing the harder tax things now, I'll admit, rather than leave it till later. It's hard to see where the growth is going to be magicked from, with markets putting barriers up, and our own self-inflicted one not showing much sign of softening.

If the markets shrugging their shoulders is a 'good reaction', then....... hmmmm

There's nothing in the budget to help generate economic growth, many of her choices will do the opposite.
Freezing the personal allowances, increasing the tax on savings, cutting the VCT tax credit, messing with salary sacrifice are all bad for growth.

Did the tourist tax materialise? That's something we really should have, but we'd charge such high rates we'd kill tourism!

The more gambling gets taxed the better ,so that's a positive.

And the blatant lies about not increasing income tax is utterly pathetic and people wil just see Labour for liars.

Buyers remorse from some of you who voted for this lot?

Has she said how the pm charge for EVs will be policed ? I assume some sort of self assessment which sounds like a disaster waiting to happen? Or will there be a hidden small print that all EVs have to have a black box?

BBC are saying some form of self assessment/reporting at the moment.

Yes, at. the discretion of Regional Mayors, I believe.

Who was it a few weeks ago who postulated that a lot of the messaging was so negative that we would all be happy that it wasn't quite as bad?

Good prediction, that one.

So was the freeze in income tax thresholds that I predicted my good self.

That's not a tax rise, though. No no, what it actually is, is a way of making sure everyone is a higher earner, without needing to be paid better.

Very clever.

I may have not been the only one, but, yes, I did say that 😂

Not really, I’d have liked to have bought something better but there wasn’t anything better on offer and most of the alternative was second-hand and much the worse for wear.

I saw a stat that said the personal allowance freeze will bring an additional 780,000 people into basic rate tax, from being no tax payers by the end of the 2030/31 tax year!
That's good for very low earners ......... not!

I have not actually worked out the numbers yet, but, I would guess it will also make work in general less attractive for the low paid, particularly when combined with removal of the 2 child cap, if they have 2+ children. The gap between disposable in come, for those on NMW and those on benefits (particularly if they can get. PIP) will move more in favour of not working.
