Its quite funny reading so many comments on here from people of all political persuasions who think their little social media bubble reflects how the majority of the country views things.
There is no attempt anymore to persuade people of why your view or idea is the right way to go - instead there is scorn and abuse for anyone not persuaded as they must be an outlier

Social media bubbles are not helping

What scorn and abuse?

Perhaps this is where Burnham will largely reside, the smaller scale 'sensible' policy stuff that can actually be implemented within fiscal means and isn't wildly controversial, supplemented by one or two 'big ticket' items like voting reform that won't get beat down as he will have stored up enough credit with the smaller stuff. If you take away the political extremes what most people want (I assume!) is to be able to afford to live and have the odd treat, to feel safe in their communities, access to decent quality public services and a general sense that the country is operating well for most of us.

I always feel if you stop trying to deliver ridiculous extremes i.e. virtually curbing any immigration, and focus on the day to day improvements to the economy, public services, general social and cultural prosperity, then people largely stop being concerned with much of the other policy as they are generally happy and no longer look for the silver bullet approach to solve all their problems.

Yep, it's easy to joke about how minimal it is but it's realistic and seems to have been costed / funded and whilst it's a very small saving at least it is a genuine saving for pretty much everyone.

The downside with these sorts of cuts is they always get written off as small and meaningless but if they are rises of teh same amount they are seen as a disaster that means someone has to "choose between heating and eating". It's the same when you have rises or cuts in interest rates.

Darren Jones sniping that the Digital ID actually wasn't funded maybe isn't the most effective criticism from someone who was part of the policy at the time.

Renewable gas?

That would necessitate a massive increase in the consumption of beans.

I was saying exactly the same to a friend.
5% increase and people moan.
Cut £45 pa and everyone mains that it’s not enough.

a 5% increase in your income tax is far more than a £45 cut in VAT on gas

Its a politicians way of spinning things to talk about 2 uncomparable things in same sentence

Serious question, Spen.

When did you last try to persuade anyone here?

I don't remember hearing anything like a coherent argument from you.

I would agree, this is a bubble, there appears to be only two, dissenting voices, perhaps, only one, if as has been suggested (jokingly?) you and Steve are the same person.
