Well, lets see if Burnham mans up. I think we can get most of what we import from America from China instead.

This. Doesn't have to be China but that is most likely.

Isn't it interesting. The Telegraphs story is that the OBR says Burnham shouldn't raise taxes. The factual report in the Grauniad reveals that to be (surprise!) complete horseshit. They said nothing about not raising tax.

Your third article there is about the IMF and not the OBR.

Reuters seems to corroborate the Graun.

I expanded it to include the IMF because the overall message is similar.

It's pretty clear looking at these that several institutions are cautioning Labour over spending, debt and tax levels. Economic common sense to most people.

You'd not believe it, but over on Cake Stop, there was a forum member who said he'd turn up his heating to celebrate Truss's tax cut sweetener for the electorate, all on borrowed money. The Tory press said it was a great move on Truss's part, despite the OBR not getting a chance to look at the costings at all. Cost the economy £30bn.

Obviously Burnham should have gone much bigger to get the approval of Tories.

Burnham move looks like it's designed to look good. Read somewhere that it's worth about 80p a week.

As I said the other day, when things go up there are cries of outrage "have to choose between heating and heating" but when it comes down by the same amount it's a piffling amount that won't make a difference to anyone.

Who was outraged about having to make that choice?

And given Burnham has some big issues in his in-tray, do you think that knocking 80p or so a week off electric bills and capping bus fares at £2 are the right priorities and the bold moves we were promised?

The media always drag out people who say that then drag out people to say the same amount being cut will make no difference.

It's pretty obvious he's just giving out some quick and easy policies whilst working on those take longer. It's pragmatic and good to see after years of policies being announced without being thought through and then being u-turned. The bigger policies will come and they seem to be trying to reinforce the message that change takes time which is a much needed dose of reality. Trying to please everyone immediately was the biggest failing of Starmer.

Weren't they warning the Tories about the exact same things? And doesn't it amount to "warning" that spending too much or borrowing too much is bad, m'kay; and that depending on how you go about it, raising tax rates doesn't necessarily mean collecting more tax?

We're I to guess, I would guess that these truths would be written on the inside of toilet cubicle doors in the treasury by now, in those little clip frames that used to contain car finance adverts.

Took me a while. Couldn't work out if it was shoot reporting or shoot satire.
Turns out it's the latter. Looks like it's a pretty poor quality satirical site.

That was not what I intended to post

This was the Rotherham Bugle post I meant to link to

@icowden's comment still stands.

Fair enough if you can't answer the valid comments made by The Rotherham Bugle

Duplicating something only adds more costs. Move the whole thing if it works, but how does an office in Manchester help Cornwall or Newcastle compared to an office in London.

Taxpayers are paying a huge additional cost so Burnham can get home early on a Friday for the weekend
Unrelated, its reported Burnham flew in government plane to Glasgow and then to Manchester...Journeys that could have been made by rail. so much for net zero.

Or is it some animals are more equal than others and net zero only applies to some people? I'm sure someone could write a book about this sort of behaviour
