So - Ben Wallace has resigned
Probably the only one that has been doing a good job for any length of time
Bit right wing - but he does seem to have got a grip on Defence and done the job properly

But he has decided that either
a) he wants to spend more time with his family
or
b) there is naff all chance of teh party winning at the general election and he would rather not have to appear on loads of pre-election TV programmes and try to justify all sorts of rubbish policies
or
c) Best to get out early and start lining up a lucrative new job before the rush starts

Anyway - clearly a replacement is required

so along comes Grant Shappes

just read it is his 5th cabinet job this year - or something similar
hardly a c.v. to be proud of

Shapps is a serial grifter. In fact, bet yer bottom dollar that all the new appointments will be grifting cannon-fodder - those prepared to sell their souls to spout Govt. bollocks on the Toady show, LBC, wherever, taking several for the team....

A little harsh on Schapps, I feel.

He is, after all, a former Home Secretary

;)

seems to be a non event as far as a lot of the media are concerned

That's pretty much what it is I think.

Ben Wallace made clear earlier in the year that he's had enough and wants out of the MoD and, come the election, being an MP.

He was prepared to carry on until the next cabinet reshuffle to save Rishi the problem of replacing him immediately. Rishi has failed to grasp that offer as it the gesture it was meant to be and Wallace has said 'sod it, im off'.

A betting man might wager that Shapps is a placeholder and won't be in there once Sunak's girded his loins and actually appoints competent people, or at least the nearest he's got, to the five great offices of state.

Well - he has had 5 roles this year - maybe he is trying for some kind of record!
