The first Oxford word of the year to be chosen by public vote has been announced.
The winning word, "goblin mode", is a slang term describing "unapologetically self-indulgent, lazy, slovenly, or greedy" behaviour.

That is NOT A WORD. It's a concept made of two words.

AAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGHHHH!

(Mind you - they have form. Apparently 2019 was "Climate Emergency", which my dictionary tells me is two words.)

Finally - am I the only person who hasn't even heard of "Goblin mode"???!

It was an emoji in previous years.
I don’t think it’s a completely serious award, especially when it’s a public vote.

Unlike the Eurovision Song Contest ...

The word of the year amongst the young people of today here is Smash

The 'unword' is Pushback.

Definitely. Chilly is defined as uncomfortably or unpleasantly cold. Thus it is possible to be slightly uncomfortably cold as opposed to very uncomfortably cold...

But isn't it lovely when you come back into the slightly warmer indoors 🌈

Never heard of Goblin mode, but am glad it's nothing to do with the rather rude version of Goblin Teasmade.
