Apparently telling the time counts as maths now, and lots of school leavers can't do it. This, according to a teacher, is because we're trying to bamboozle the kids with stuff that's far too complicated. Like trigonometry. The solution is a new qualification that's simpler to obtain, so that they can calculate things like percentage fat on food packets etc. Since when has that not been an application for the basic arithmetic that kids are already taught at primary school?
