Eeyore alert. I suspect not only that the 25th will not be invoked, but the mid-terms won’t happen either. Why? The US will be at war.
I fear that the Iran war is just an extension of Gaza and Ukraine. Cuba and Greenland are next by which time we are in WWIII. Weakening Europe and NATO is not an accident, it is intentional. At which time the US is no longer in a “special relationship”, or even an ally, but the enemy.
Vance in Hungary is another small step.

I'd don't know US Constitution, election rules but why would US being at war stop the mid-term elections?

US territory is not under threat or constraint. Quite easy for all US troops to get to cast their vote (ie none in trenches on any front line). Not a Presidential election so Commander in Chief not going to change.

Somewhere like Ukraine clearly elections in their war become impossible eg a vast number of troops in fairly inaccessibe front lines, a significant number of the electorate in occupied territories (how to they get to cast their votes), etc. but US very different.

He has a free pass from Congress and SCOTUS, so who is going to stop him cancelling elections?

A little later in my post I hypothesised that we could be in WWIII. All norms are off the table at that stage. As if he cares anyway.
