Melania's press statement runs against the grain of the WH saying that there's 'nothing to see here' and Melania called for public hearings for the victims under oath - something certain Dems have been calling for.
Trump denied any knowledge of her assembling the press to make the statement. If true, the statement both out of the blue and contrary to most, if not all, publicity is raising questions about her timing as if there is something in the pipeline that is imminent. Or is she distancing herself because the sees that the ship is sinking?

I cannot see her statement as being simply unique. There would be little point in that.

I’m sure not a public hearing for the victims under oath is particularly what the victims would want to go through. Maybe Melania should offer to be questioned under oath herself, First Lady Clinton did it after all.

Historians of the future won’t understand how we sunk so low.
But the US voted for this guy twice.
You do start to wonder if the strong and stable Chinese system playing the long game is a better way of running the world, than popular votes every 4 years.

Like all 'systems' they have their flaws. The Chinese don't mind slave labour, incarcerating thousands of Uighurs (and torturing and raping them), censoring press, filtering external media and denying HK citizens the democracy that they agreed to uphold after the hand over. The Chinese communist party is a dictatorship.

I think given that Trump 1.0 was a very benign administration compared to this one, could we see this coming? They lied - no more foreign wars, reduction in the cost of living, draining the swamp, America first - all lies. Trump presented himself as someone different, someone outside of the establishment.
All lies.

Sure but Melania went against the WH grain. The upshot might be very interesting and we still don't really know why she did this.

Clearly not. But it’s amazing how Trump has shown the US constitution to be useless.
A bit of boring pragmatism would be nice for a few years.

If (when) China becomes the predominant world super power do you think they'll have more or less concern for human rights and international law than America? I happen to agree with you that this war is disastrous and that Trump is acting dangerously and probably in violation of the constitution but I don't share your view that we should emulate the Chinese model. I'm amazed your suggestion didn't get more push back but then I remembered what forum we're on.

It’s not a serious suggestion.
It shows that the “democracy is good, communism is bad” mantra is nonsense. And that democracy is far from the perfect solution many think it is.

So Melania Trump seems to have denied ever having been good friends with Ghislain Maxwell, never having got tipsy together at a cocktail party, having no shared love of fashionable shoes and having never at any time picked out designer clothes together. And emails suggesting a friendship are entirely superficial and no different toessages she would send to any other billionaire's acolytes out of mere politeness.

I am glad we are all clear on that.

Democracy might be the best solution.
What they currently have in the US is not a democracy. When is the last time something was passed by the Senate?
