Amused by China trolling Trump with export restrictions on rare earth minerals.

If the markets continue to react to Trump's genius in the same way the reacted to Truss's genius, things could get interesting, as when Ron Johnson, a Trump lackey, is voicing forthright concerns on Fox, you know that things are salty in that camp. "Bold risky move" = batshit crazy.

It's the old adage

Be in it to win it.

Just because a proportion of the population didn't vote, doesn't mean they were all would have voted to stay in the EU and vice versa. Even if you wish it so.

Warner Bros Discovery shares have lost over 20% of their value these past 2 days.
That’ll teach ‘em to charge us 31quid to watch cycling.🤣

I've not really missed Discovery. I have been able to watch either highlights and or live streaming from other sources to watch the big races

Jerome Powell has appeared critical of the tariffs - how long before the TT sacks him?

The Chinese have stuck their middle finger in the TT's face haven;t they. They really could cause some big problemns for the US in the short term if they wanted to.

Yeah but what's he going to do about it? Start getting ***** about Ukraine? Decide to go look in Greenland?

I heard an amusing analogy, that whilst most leaders play a strategic game of chess, Trump is playing conkers.
It’s all or nothing. There is no strategy, it’s just a game of blunt trauma until one participant cracks. And it’s just as likely that the one doing the hitting will crack first.

Given that China control 90% of the REM supply, the most he can do is put his finger into the unfortunate dyke.

What’s more concerning is that Trump has made this into a global concern, as restrictions will effect everyone.

Is this how civil wars begin?

"Gavin Newsom, the governor of California, wants to cut independent trade deals which would see his state exempted from retaliatory tariffs triggered by Donald Trump’s trade war.
The governor shared a video pleading with officials to explore ways of persuading countries to hold off putting extra taxes on California-made goods.
Donald Trump’s tariffs do not represent all Americans,” Mr Newsom said in a clip posted to X the day after Mr Trump declared “liberation day” by announcing a levy of at least 10 per cent on all imported goods.
“And on behalf of 40 million Americans that live in the great state of California, the tent pole of the US economy… the dominant manufacturing state in America, our state of mind is around supporting stable trading relationships around the globe.”
In a statement, he added: “California leads the nation as the number one state for agriculture and manufacturing — and it’s our workers, families, and farmers who stand to lose the most from this Trump tax hike and trade war.”
“To our international partners: As the fifth largest economy in the world, the Golden State will remain a steady, reliable partner for generations to come, no matter the turbulence coming out of Washington. California is not Washington, DC.”"
