Yep it's odd. Even in my brief time in industrial R&D, I was told about dual sourcing things.

The flip side is that an exclusive supply agreement makes the spinout more viable. In which case, why spin it out?

Zackly - if done well, someone else makes the profit, and has the opportunity to hold the buyer to ransom. I've no idea about how corporate structures work, but surely better to have a division with some autonomy within the parent company, where innovation can be fostered, but where overall company ethics and goals are aligned.

Interestingly, I just looked back at the Challenger thing, and it was the booster-rocket people who were over-ruled by NASA... I'd forgotten that part of it. https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo...ly-he-tried-to-stop-shuttle-challenger-launch

...and involved in human trafficking.

I'd love someone to sue the hell out of her for those made-up allegations.

Gorka now saying that anyone who argues for the return of Garcia should be charged with aiding terrorism. This is what happens when there are no consequences for utterly blatant lying. Every journalist should just ask ad nauseam "Where's the evidence?"

...and JD Vance throws petrol on to the trade war by calling the Chinese peasants. Problem is, 90% of the rare earth minerals come from China and the US needs them. China has restricted sales of rare earth minerals to the US.

These b@stards are so clever.

It all suggests that they are trying the "You won't cope if we walk away!" gambit, and the rest of the world is just going to shrug and let them walk away. It's got 'hubris' written all over it. Weird, but insulting the people you want to trade with probably isn't going to get the results they crave.

So, will the orange rapist's justice department comply with Judge Boasberg's latest ruling in the Albrego Garcia case, for sworn statements to be provided from those who can attest to the aircraft not be turned around after the court ruling?

Elsewhere California is looking to use the courts to stop the tariffs.

Gorka is a horrible man.
Even worse because he has an English accent.

Just because someone is demanding the return of Garcia, doesn’t automatically make them in favour of anything Garcia may have done. Nuance has gone out of the window. everything is just so binary in Trump’s new world order.

Upping the ante even more. How long before they claim he was a gun-totin', child-raping head of the gang? I so would like these spiteful lying goons to be sued into oblivion. She's even claimed that his children will be better off without him. Evil canute.

Some commentators on discussion panels eg BBC Newsnight start on "Trump's just doing what he said he was going to do", but I don't think that's true, not even for areas he did mention.

eg he denied even knowing what Project 2025 was and denied following their plans but my impression is a lot of what he's doing is as proposed by Project 2025.

eg He might have talked about Tariffs but that's a very broad thing and most poeople would have expected use of Tariffs to be as a tool to accomplish specific needs in the interests of other aims he identified eg to bring down cost of living. But using it with ever changing intent, ever changing new rules is in effect just creating instability even for U|S companies and that was never in his election manifesto.

eg Did his election manifesto raise alienating closest US allies or largest US trading partners

etc.
