I expect Starmer will be getting squeaky bum this very moment, not from his, erm friends either

Alternative view: US becoming increasingly isolated on foreign policy stage. Bonkers president changes tariff rates (as always) for Canada, UK and EU. Chances of risk-averse non-US companies (btw that’s prob all of them!) investing in infra to produce in the US goes from 0.01% to 0.001%. US domestic strategy goes same way as foreign strategy.

For want of anywhere more appropriate to put this. I was just in a hotel restaurant on a table next to an American woman and her British husband who were with his family. They were explaining child benefit to her and she was incredulous about the idea of a Government paying people to have kids. She then went on to bemoan interviewees she has been dealing with who had the temerity to raise work / life balance and overtime pay.

I couldn’t help thinking about out former BR poster who seemed to idolise the US system on one hand whilst being a full time SJW on the other and how he would have reacted.

The American system works perfectly well as long as you are a hamster on the wheel earning money.
Or, preferably on a tier or two above.
