Hegseth fires top US general after Iran assessment that angered Trump
The US defense secretary, Pete Hegseth, has fired a general whose agency’s initial intelligence assessment of damage to Iranian nuclear sites from US strikes angered Donald Trump, according to two people familiar with the decision and a White House official.
Highlights how daft the US government has become. How can a country make progress, how can things improve is policy and decisions are based on fiction. What knowledgeable state experts are going to write a report saying anything Trump might dislike, effectively throwing their job, pension, etc. down the drain.

He was fired for leaking the assessment, not the report itself.

He was head of the department

Things will not improve until someone has the guts to call out that the Emperor has no clothes.
I have reached the point where I now no longer care. Can't feel sorry for those who won't help themselves.

If local enforcement is not controlling/doing its job re crime, then bringing in extra personal is sensible.

It worked in DC, why not other cities?

Just because they are under the federal umbrella, is neither here or there. Just like the UK government calling in the army to help the police for a situation

Yeahbut, crime only happens in blue states. The red states are all sunlit uplands. It's obvious.

No they're not, but it's a great policy to cut crime drastically in your oppositions back yard.

Makes the democrats look weak, sympathetic on crime/vagrancy, which they are

Yeah I mean Chicago is a mess, the Democrats have run it badly...

I don't think Taylor Cohen, the Bulwark, Pod Save America, IHIP, MSNBC, The Meidas Touch, Jack Cocchiarella, TYT (The Young Turks), The Lincoln project, The Damage Report (part of TYT) et al see it as anything but a precursor to possible martial law.

My thinking is that this (semi) military presence is there to interfere with the Mid terms. I think that's what it's all about. I know it's 14 months away but if people get used to the presence, they're not looking at the bigger picture.
The 'deep state' currently is the architects and purveyors of Project 2025. They do not care what Trump does, as long as he can facilitate their agenda. Trump doesn't care because he's only president to protect himself and cash in.

Trump doesn't care because he's only president to protect himself and cash in.
His wealth decreased on his last term. He doesn't take the salary of the president.

Compare that to many senior democrats including former democrat presidents, who have massively increased wealth despite being paid only (modest) politician's salary

Eg Obama was reputed to have a wealth of $1.6 million before president and now worth $60-135 million earning 400K per year as president.

If he earnt it, fair enough

Then there is Nancy Pelosi, who has outperformed every stock broker by huge factors not just one year, multiple years. Reported to be worth many hundreds of millions($260m) of dollars, on a modest Congress salary $140k
