I sit here in glorious indifference.
Cookiemonster has unashamed condemnation for a man who held abhorrent views, I see no celebration in his posts.
On one hand, Kirk was a man who somehow justified the 2nd amendment despite the facts that far more Americans die of hand gun deaths than they do from foreign conflict. It's all a bit ironic. 1.8m domestic gun related deaths since 1945. Kirk's views on the right to bear arms is only the tip of the Kirk iceberg. The Nazi rhetoric of Kirk and Turning point USA needs to be condemned for it is this that is promoting white supremacy and quietly celebrates deportations of 'illegals' along with inhumane incarceration. There is far too much indifference to extremist views in the US. Prejudice is often based in ignorance. Radicalised individuals base their prejudice on both ignorance, intolerance but worse, promotes action.
The US stands by the 2nd amendment and free speech and it all sounds fine but there are insufficient regulations on gun ownership and there are no laws against hate speech. So, I sort of shrug my shoulders. If this is the culture that they espouse, then Kirk's death is a manifestation of that.
On the other hand, if it is possible that an extremist can be murdered, then others who hold fairer opinions can be shot too. It's a free for all in a society that is, as far as I am concerned, morally broken.
I think that if an individual has been on the receiving end of prejudice and hatred, they see this differently to those who haven't.
