Tour 1 - basic training then worked as a prison guard at Guantanamo for a year.

This is rather off-topic, but surely that's a pretty sh1te first posting, isn't it?? I almost feel sorry for the guy ...

Former Fox News host and current Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth was forced to step down from two different veterans' advocacy non-profits years before his 2024 cabinet appointment. News reports from December 2024 confirmed that he was pushed out of Veterans for Freedom (VFF) and Concerned Veterans for America (CVA) over multiple serious allegations, including financial mismanagement, sexual misconduct, and repeated public intoxication.

It is, but it might be suggestive of the military's opinion as to his capability as a reserve officer...

Let's examine that in more detail:

He was a reserve office and gained one medal during his service:-

Tour 1 - basic training then worked as a prison guard at Guantanamo for a year. Volunteered to go to Iraq as infantry but moved away from front line as swiftly as he could to become a civil affairs officer working with the city council.

Tour 2 - Teacher in Afghanistan

Tour 3 - District of Columbia drilling service member.

He was banned from Biden's inauguration as a potential threat due to his Deus Vult tattoo - usually associated with white supremacists and far right Christian groups.

Now let's compare Hegseth's distinguished service in admin to his predecessor Lloyd Austin who was a 4 star general... actually lets not bother the clue is in 4 star general.

C'mon @CXRAndy, defend how this wonderful warrior experience, and not his time on TV sucking up to Trump, justified his position in charge of proper soldiers. I am sure you wrote a couple of days ago that one of the strengths of Trump's presidency was the way he used experts rather than politicians to run the various departments.

I dont need to defend anyone. Trump picked him, seems happy with his performance, cleaning up the miltary, removing DIE, trans who are unfit for duty.

You're mixing up Farage has said they will use industry experts in ministerial roles

:okay:

Which you said works well in the US I believe.

Of course Trump is happy with his work (he does what he's told) until Trump is unhappy with his work when he will be a terrible, terrible man who he never really liked.

Oh dear. having fired the head of the office that produces US jobs statistics, it seems that the statistics still aren't doing what he wants them to do. Maybe he just needs to fire the statistics themselves.
