Don't Americans like the phrase "probable cause" when looking to charge someone? Something to do with that perhaps?
Or infringing a person's rights? - Unless of course you are a MAGA Supreme Court Justice, which seems to qualify you to trample on rights thought to have been long established.
Also, I thought each State is in theory independent, but there is an overarching US statute within which each State operates. Hence the mish mash of gun laws.

It's all in character: it was the same for Boris Johnson, which is government-by-trolling. You don't actually do anything to mitigate problems, you just do things that outrage anyone to the left of your position, and the memes, the tweets, the soundbites aren't a commentary, they are front & centre of why they choose to do things.

The framing of the 'No Kings' protests as 'Hate America rallies' by the likes of Mike Johnson was well handled by the organisers of the rallies - all the pre-publicity emphasized the need for peaceful, joyous protests, and the inflatable costumes adopted from the Portland protests nicely both ridiculing the MAGA framing of the protests as violent insurrection and helping keep the tone fun & family-friendly. The contrast with the 'joyous' J6 insurrection at the Capitol couldn't have been more stark.
