I think probably it is getting to the point where his "Russian" approach to flooding media with a single and entirely incorrect message, to thereby make it become "true", is starting to fail. It has taken literally a decade too long.

As I've opined before, the AI thing is (at least) a partial con, sold on the success of LLMs mimicking human language, making people think that human-like intelligence lies behind the 'reasoning' of their output.

That the US's economic buoyancy has so quickly become reliant on the AI industry, which has masked the plight of the rest of the US economy under Trump's isolationism, doesn't bode well for the world economy, though perhaps we should be grateful for the size of the Chinese economy now, which might cushion the blow, should the US's exposure cause a seismic economic shock.

Not sure whether in the long term America first or China first policies will be worse. Perhaps ask one of the governors of Sheffield Hallam University.

AI doesn't feed people or harvest crops and will only serve to strip out 15-20% of white collar workers. I do not know how global economies work with 20% unemployment rates, diminishing tax revenues plus ageing populations.
Someone please tell me why AI is a good thing.

More thought on this. I think AI as a development of what has been called "informatics" for a couple of decades, is potentially a huge step forward.in using vast data sets. It has implications for climate studies, geology, drug discover, genetic research, you name it.

What the populus is seeing as "AI" is however like a circus conjurer's show by comparison. It isn't really what it should be used for.

There is a role for pulling together information and creating short cuts in other fields, but I'm not convinced that even if it is possible, the use of AI to replace our need to actually generate language output ourselves is positive.

I can see why. AI is a very technical issue with constraints and concequances that need understanding. Investors don't understand the technology and thus can't appreciate the constraints. It's complex and whilst there are some specialist investors, many are not, don't spend the time understanding and just follow the herd mentality (FOMO).

But it also raises the issue about who will benefit should AI achieve some of the benefits being spun. Will the population be better off as they lose their jobs and companies become more profitable or will it be the wealthy elits swallowing those increased profits into their bank balances?

That's the only coherence about the MAGA manifesto, a bit like the Reform barely-hidden racism: everything else is just noise.

But it isn't the MAGA Attorneys General who are involved in the action. Which suggests the MAGA Attorneys General are happy to see their poor and vulnerable downtrodden further.

True. But AI is like the internet itself. It has changed the world for good, for bad, and for evil. Other than that it does make glaring errors and people are correct to think there is mischief in it. I prefer to think it enables good and bad faith actors equally - and yes that is a problem.

In the meantime, I asked Copilot to make you an image of billionaires escaping New York on ''a large scale exododus'' - and what ever we think of AI the result is pretty damn clever, though not flawless.
