One of the more interesting wrinkles is that Donny owes £750,000 in legal fees for failed frivolous legal action. The courts and legal chaps are getting a bit annoyed with his non payment, so it is a possibility that they might just send the bailiffs into Turnberry to recover the debt.

Isn't Donnie still pissed that the R&A won't use Turnberry for the Open anymore?
I think the baliffs moving in would be very funny, as would an arrest warrant should donnie step into Europe again.

That is not reassuring.

According to Scaramucci that is how Sheinbaum plays Trump.

Gosh. The European Parliament not couching the debate in euphemistic terms...

This is the kind of chink of light that diplomats might try to exploit. Obviously they would be sensible also to talk to the less ideologically extreme Republicans in Congress (Senate and House) who will be only too aware of the dire polling that Trump is landing them with with his global ambitions: its would only take two or three of them to vote with Democrats to change things in trying to reassert the constitutional safeguards against mad kings.

Genuine question here:

If the PM of UK and their immediate cabal were to be so evidently batshit crazy, I'm pretty sure (or I'd hope!) there would be a vote of no confidence that would trigger a leadership or general election.

Is there an equivalent process in the USA? . . . or this what "impeachment" is?

He’s already been impeached twice. Third time lucky? 🤞

Of course, that's part of the subtext, but the "sit back, take a deep breath" won't have gone unnoticed either.

I admire your optimism. No such meaning was intended.

Impressive that you can mind read.

It's not optimism to try to identify the 'opportunities' of a SWOT analysis, unless you think trying to avoid world war or economic catastrophe is defined as 'optimism'. At this stage it's not analogous to Hitler invading the Sudetenland: if Starmer were coming back from Mar-A-Lago with a piece of paper signed by Trump that he was going to play nice after all, meanwhile pointing all his nukes at Europe, I'd concede the point. But I'm fairly confident that Starmer isn't going this alone, and is in lockstep with most of the sane world.

As I asked upthread, what the alternative? Metaphorically nuke the US and the world economy because of a literally lunatic POTUS who's going to be dead or in a care home for terminally confused presidents in a year or two?

Seems like Farage has managed to whisper into Trump’s ear about Chagos.
Trump had previously agreed to the deal but now in light of the Greenland issue he has had a change of heart.
My impression is Trǔmp (or his puppet masters) is hunting around for some sort of justification for threatening allies. Everything he has stated as justifications (military security, mineral wealth) is already available or offered so he (or puppet masters) need to find a reason for what he's doing.
