I think it is just part of the “human condition”, some people attract intense dislike, others, behaving in a not dissimilar way, are “loveable rogues”. To a degree, it is a skill, for example, IMHO, Nigel would not be significantly, except that he is like a magnet to comment (often critical), but, his “brand” gets remembered.

I am not a Trump or Nigel fan by the way.
