Newsmaxx settles with Dominion voting systems shortly before trial to decide damages was due to start. $50m agreed for the lies.

It's an odd sort of democracy when a corporation successfully sues. $67m fact check.
I bet that's not on Fox news.

Amazed they settled when Newsmaxx are still refusing to accept they did anything wrong. The figure is also way below what they were claiming. It feels like they weren't confident in the way the jury would go.

This just in from the Onion:

President Donald Trump has claimed that crime is “out of control” in the nation’s capital and beyond. The Onion assesses the veracity of the president’s claims.

Claim: D.C. has endured a record amount of robberies.

Partially true: Some places in Georgetown sell a cup of coffee for $9.

Claim: Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles are crime-ridden cesspools.

False: These cities are safe, vibrant cesspools.

Claim: The National Guard is being deployed to crack down on crime.

False: The National Guard is being deployed to give Stephen Miller an erection.

Claim: Just last week, a high-ranking politician was shot in the head at a D.C. theater.

False: Trump is mixing up last week with April 14, 1865.

Claim: Violent foreigners traveled to D.C. to savagely beat Americans.

False: The UFC fight on the White House South Lawn isn’t until next year.

Claim: Basically anything.

False: “False” continues to be a very safe assumption to make

As opposed to your lot on X who are all screaming lunatics.

I would think there were a number of considerations given the claim against Fox started at $1.6bn and which coincidentally was the same starting figure as that for Newsmaxx.
Although Newsmaxx claims to be in around 70m homes, I would equate that claim to be like one of the obscure satellite or digital channels claiming to be in "X" million UK homes. The channel might be there, but who watches it?
Fox News dwarfs Newsmaxx for both the maximum viewers and average viewers. - Sometimes by almost a factor of 9 or 10 from some of the figures I have seen. I would imagine that in court all sorts of excuses would be provided along the lines of "Yes we beam to X million homes but our viewers are Y thousands and of those the average viewing time is Z minutes."
Then there is how frequently the lies were pushed. No doubt Dominion would have detailed records of this, as they certainly did in the Fox case.
Smartmatic who were also defamed, settled with Newsmaxx for $40m. Their case against Fox News is still unresolved. The last I read was that Fox News were trying avoid a jury trial.
With my very limited knowledge, $67m (my original post should have shown £50m not $50m), the figure when compared to that in Fox seems a reasonable solution.

Jack White nails it in response to the WH. 😎

I'm more surprised the out of court settlement didn't prevent Newsmaxx continuing to state they stand by their claims.
