It is just extraordinary. I thought I'd already run out of understanding of America, but each day I see something even more dumbfounding.

Don't dare call him a Nazi.

This sounds about right. Anyone want to fact check?

🏭 South Korea & Hyundai ICE Raid

  • Claim: South Korea is pulling billions in investments after an ICE raid on a Hyundai plant in Georgia.
  • Reality Check: There was an ICE investigation into labor violations involving suppliers to Hyundai in Georgia, particularly concerning underage workers. However, there's no verified report that South Korea or Hyundai pulled billions in investment as a direct result. Hyundai has continued expanding operations in the U.S., including EV production.

🕊️ Qatar & $1.5 Trillion Investment

  • Claim: Qatar pulled a $1.5 trillion investment after Trump bombed Palestinian negotiations in Qatar.
  • Reality Check: This figure is wildly inflated. Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund is estimated around $450 billion—not $1.5 trillion. There’s no credible evidence that such a massive investment was planned or withdrawn due to U.S. actions. Also, major Palestinian negotiations have typically occurred in Egypt or Jordan, not Qatar.

🇩🇰 Denmark & Patriot Missiles

  • Claim: Denmark rejected U.S. Patriot missiles in favor of SAMP/T, costing the U.S. $9.1 billion.
  • Reality Check: Denmark did choose the SAMP/T system over Patriot missiles in 2023. However, the $9.1 billion figure is misleading—it likely refers to the total cost of the Patriot system globally, not Denmark’s specific deal. Denmark’s defense budget wouldn’t support a single purchase of that magnitude.

🌱 China & Soybean Purchases

  • Claim: China bought 0% of U.S. soybeans this year, down from $13.2 billion last year.
  • Reality Check: During the height of the U.S.-China trade war (2018–2019), soybean purchases dropped significantly, but not to zero. In some months, purchases were minimal, but China resumed buying after trade agreements. The $13.2 billion figure is roughly accurate for peak years, but the “0%” claim is exaggerated.

🚗 Ford & Tariffs

  • Claim: Trump’s tariffs cost Ford $800 million in Q2, wiping out profits.
  • Reality Check: Ford did report that tariffs had a significant impact—around $1 billion annually—but attributing a specific quarterly loss solely to tariffs oversimplifies things. Other factors like supply chain issues and global market shifts also played a role.

Thanks, but my immediate thought is that Copilot is lagging.
The ICE raid was recent and the consequences are yet to be fully realised.
The Qatar thing is weird as negotiations *are* or *were* happening there, and okay, "only" $450 billion.
China does not give current details.
Ford - Do the tariffs not impact supply chains and global markets? Oh yes they do.

No idea, TBH, though I agree about it being early days re Hyundai .

Also more complex than straight cost of paying tariffs. As tariffs have been on, off, on starting 2 weeks, off, etc. companies incl. suppliers have been stocking up in advance of tariffs starting and that requires financing that costs, excessive stock holding that costs, maybe additional warehousing costs, etc.

It seems the way the US is operating these days. Do and say as they want or they'll use unrelated measures to punish you. Rule of law in Brazil seems unacceptable to Trumpton so Brazil must suffer 50% tariffs (at least until they do what the US requires and ignore their own domestic laws).

The US imports 98m tons of Soya p.a to the US plus iron ore. It's not going to help the US economy any.
Bolsonaro got 27 years. That'll teach him.
