Sometimes I reflect of humanity along the lines of if an alien were observing Earth trying to understand what would they make of <x>. Maybe more of a method to step back from the entanglements of impacts or involvements (as in how this might impact me, country, future, etc.) and helps look at the broader aspects.

And for US I can see there are answers in terms of power, narcissism, personal enrichment, etc. but in terms of humanity organising its society and governance I just wonder if we as a species are unsuited to the environment we have created. Can we (as a species) really do no better than this?

I recently discovered that (if you want to) you can watch Facebook stuff without an account, just close the "Get the full experience" pop up. I'd ignored stuff my pals had been sending me for a while until one of them pointed this out, while mocking me.

That still means opening the website and having to accept cookies from it.

Either way, it's pretty good not having Facebook. I didn't mind it as a platform when you had more control as a user, but those days are gone. Ho hum.

Personally, I've never understood the whole thing against these things. Yes, they might be owned by bad people or whatever, but what do you think is going to happen? Besides, most companies appear to be run by questionable people anyway. 🤦‍♂️

FWIW, I only do Facebook because I don't want to be over - loaded with everything else. I have a Twitter, sorry, X, account, but never use it because it is all too much.

I find that Twitter is very specific about topics and so on, whereas Facebook is more varied and diffuse, which I prefer.

The example my old primary school teacher always pointed out was the Greenland and Australia comparison. Australia is nearly 4 times bigger.

He helpfully explained that a flat map was stretched to a straight line top and bottom when actually it ends on a dot at the poles.
