I wasn't being literal. The point I was trying to make is that we cannot rely on something not happening because it is beyond the pale. Beyond the pale is what Trump and accolites do every day and twice on Sundays.

My generally-liberal petrolhead friend thought Trump would be elected, both times (not that he wanted him to be), as he has a lot of US contacts through his car stuff (his idea of heaven is Hershey) who had no time for Biden, and Trump kind of spoke their language.

Maybe question of perception, bit like Blue Labour's claimed landslide (on lower vote than Corbyn got). In US maybe Biden clinging on when he clearly couldn't hide his condition meant he threw the election away for the Democrats. Maybe more Biden losing than Trump winning?
