I'm still gobsmacked that *anyone*, even a Trump lackey, would think that this is appropriate. It would be like being asked to give a funeral oration, and slagging off the deceased. Even if you didn't like them, most people would find a way of saying something that was appropriate for a funeral. But it's like Trump has given them permission to be utterly disrespectful and objectional, no matter how solemn the occasion. It's utterly bizarre.

It does. But I still find it extraordinary that there's not one shred of realisation or basic humanity there. There are some things you'd have thought would be universally understood and respected, even by truly wicked people: laughing at true grief, or making brazen political points when commemorating sacrifice (by both allies and enemies) would have been in that category, I'd have previously thought. Seems I was wrong.

Seriously, it's going to take a lot to come back from this. At least Hitler recognised the value of science (albeit to evil ends). This lot are gutting universities, medical research, and so much else that even in the best-case scenario, it's going to take at least a generation to restore, I reckon.
