I'm not sure that's true. It didn’t didn’t work for Biden.

Waiting to see what the democratic leadership do.

Flawed relativism perhaps? Trump 1.0 was benign compared to this time round.
There wasn't a hint of Project 2025 or nearly the numbers of vested interest billionaires.

I was going to put this in the Good News thread, then remembered what I said about Corbyn's Labour & opposition to the Tories. So I'll leave it here, in the hope that Republicans do what the Tories didn't do after their GE defeat in 2024, and realise why they have been booted out, and try some grown-up politics that doesn't start with just trolling as the main tactic. Well, I suppose and stop trying to circumvent every guardrail of the Constitution in order to install a permanent Republican government.

Jeffries determined to screw this up big time by letting all the arsonists off the hook and giving them a box of matches and some kerosene as a leaving present.

He seems to think this is an either/or. It reminds me of Starmer getting his rout on the back of Not Being Tories and their Brexit, and carrying on without calling out their Brexit, but this is x100, given the crimes of Team Trump.

From the bit quoted only, that just seems like a pragmatic approach to me. The US will go nowhere if all Congress decides to do is fight Trump.

Yes, sure they need to make things materially better for the people who voted them in, but they also need to reassert the rule of law in governance.

They can do that without overt retribution though. If they get lucky there’ll be recriminations within the Republicans so they can just leave them to the retributions.

It’s mad that the legal system won’t just do their job of prosecuting wrong doing without the politicians getting their hands dirty with having to instigate it.

If they call reasserting the rule of law as 'retribution', then they've got problems. Though true, the fact that so much of the justice system is overtly political does make the administration of justice necessarily partisan.
