I just belatedly did a search on whether or not Tim Berners-Lee actually said that, and this is what came up: "While the quote is widely attributed to him and sounds consistent with his views (on how our browsing, linking, data-sharing all shape the web and society), I cannot verify it with a primary source such as a transcript, article, or book by him. So it remains unconfirmed." Since starting this thread I've discovered that it's best to always try to get reliable confirmation on quotes.

A couple of Jonathan Swift quotes, very apt in the day of the internet and social media:

"You should never be ashamed to admit you have been wrong. It only proves you are wiser today than yesterday."

"Falsehood flies, and truth comes limping after it, so that when men come to be undeceived, it is too late; the jest is over, and the tale hath had its effect.

3 by or attributed to G.K. Chesterton.

"A yawn is a silent shout."

“There exists … a certain institution or law; let us say, for the sake of simplicity, a fence or gate erected across a road. The more modern type of reformer goes gaily up to it and says, ‘I don’t see the use of this; let us clear it away.’ To which the more intelligent type of reformer will do well to answer: ‘If you don’t see the use of it, I certainly won’t let you clear it away. Go away and think. Then, when you can come back and tell me that you do see the use of it, I may allow you to destroy it.’”

"I owe my success to having listened respectfully to the very best advice, and then going away and doing the exact opposite."

I learnt on my first cycle tour to ask a woman for directions when lost. Most women will tell you if they don't know. Most men will bluff.
