Elaine Dickinson: Ladies and gentlemen, this is your stewardess speaking... We regret any inconvenience the sudden cabin movement might have caused, this is due to periodic air pockets we encountered, there's no reason to become alarmed, and we hope you enjoy the rest of your flight... By the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane?

Hanging Lady: Nervous?
Ted Striker: Yes.
Hanging Lady: First time?
Ted Striker: No, I've been nervous lots of times.

Steve McCroskey: Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue.

Johnny: The tower, the tower! Rapunzel, Rapunzel!

Air Controller Macias: Captain, maybe we ought to turn on the searchlights now.
Rex Kramer: No... that's just what they'll be expecting us to do.

Captain Oveur: Joey, do you like movies about gladiators?
Captain Oveur: Joey, have you ever been in a Turkish prison?

And of course...
Ted Striker: Surely you can't be serious.
Rumack: I am serious... and don't call me Shirley.

"I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me."

"Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

Another along the "Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely ..."
The mystery of life isn't a problem to solve, but a reality to experience.
(again, from Dune)

I'm starting to get the feeling you want us to read Dune.
Depends on what sort of books you like. I read and enjoy a lot of Science Fiction but even that's a broad genre and I suspect it's such a well known series of books that those who would enjoy it have already read it.

Apropos of nowt, I am one such but I've never read it. I even had a copy as a kid but never got around to it for some reason.

And these days, my Unread Pile Of Shame is already teetering precariously and does not need another 900-page doorstop balanced on the top!

More than 900 pages (my copy 500) - the Frank Herbert authored are 6 books (ignoring the books his son wrote after his death as they are nothing like the same).

The first book is about 550 pages, but that includes appendices. Well worth a read. The rest of the series not so much.
