Sure, some countries have higher taxes. They might also have better public services to show for it. Are UK taxes higher than they have ever been? Is this tax burden delivering better services for the public?

That says more about the quality of government management/stewardship of public services than the level of taxes.

UK tax revenue is below the average of other developed economies. The UK stands out as raising less from social security contributions.

1. Those are old figures

2. For the proverbial "man in the street" taxes mean deductions from Salary/wage which, for even moderate earners/clickbat phrase of your choice*, is around 30%

3. For many of those on Pensions, Income tax is a new experience, justifiably or not, they don't like it

4. I have not worked out the %ges, but, Reeves backtracking with Means Testing has produces high marginal rates for those in a narrow bands around Pension Credit Level, and, £35k. Again, the complains may be unjustified, but, that does not make them any less real.

* you know the ones: "working people", "Working families", etc ("broadest shoulders" appears to have slipped out of use).

Unfortunately a large part of the Labour party seem to think that the problem is that they haven't been left wing enough. If Starmer is ousted then they will probably double down and we are likely to find out the hard way that the answer to leftiebollox not working is not even more leftiebollox.

It’s interesting how people will accept the views and opinions of a proven liar if it aligns with their own views and opinions. There are some on here who naively voted for Labour on the basis that they couldn't possibly be as bad as the evil Tories so we shouldn't be surprised if a few of them double down and make excuses for their dreadful stewardship of the economy.

If Cummings is right, why blame Labour/Starmer?

Cummings can be right and Labour can still be the worst government in living memory simp!y because they're sh1t. The two aren't mutually exclusive

Amusing that you accept Cummings' explanation of why the Conservative gov was in such a mess, but not Starmer's explanation of why his government is in such a mess when they both make the same argument.

Let me put you straight on something because you seem to be labouring under the illusion that I'm a supporter of the Conservative party. I am not. Neither am I a fan of Cummings who I could level many criticisms at. However I think he's highly intelligent (eaps and bounds in front of most politicians)and I accept his analysis of the failures of the state. Starmer appears to agree with him too.
