I do think that in centuries to come people will say 'Did they really kill and eat animals?'. Hopefully there'll be other worse things that become obsolete and leave future generations incredulous.
These days I'm doubting the human race has "centuries to come". I'd certainly be surprised if meat eating continued at current levels even if for reasons other than animal welfare (eg cost, health, Climate Change).

Many of the slavers found it convenient to believe that slaves were from a lower form of life.

I could imagine a future where people highly value all sentient life, and consider my bacon sandwich part of a huge atrocity.

A convivence backed by the churches , allowing them to invest .
