Will it happen? Wont it? What will really happen if it does?
What are your thoughts and views on it all?

I know it has been included in things like the Tr*mp thread, but as tensions and negotiations develop, here is an individual thread for the Greenlandic situation.

Ignoring the rabid dislike of the US president.

What harm would it do for USA to buy Greenland and ensure militarily more secure than Having Denmark or the EU doing the same thing.

If world conflict develops having China and or Russia take out the region, would anyone be happy with that situation.

China, Russia, or USA.

I dont include EU, they are incapable miltarily

US foreign policy right now is so all over the place, it's bizarre. It's like the people involved have just discovered Risk and don't really know what they're doing so have a crack at trying to conquer everything, either themselves or by proxy.

If the USA does end up buying it, I think they'll be sorely disappointed to find out what a pain in the arse it will be to plunder the resources. It's a long term and high risk strategy which (if it goes ahead) could pretty easily be undone by the next incumbent of the Oval Office, with a Republican saying "Actually this isn't worth it" or a Democrat saying pretty much the same thing, but slightly more scathingly.

Regardless of the Chinese, Russians or anyone else, it's just the arrogance of Trump that gets me - "We are going to have that, no matter what and sod everyone else, not least the people who actually live there!"

That's Trumps manner.

Like I said if you take Trump out of the equation.

Do you want China, Russia or USA to have control of Greenland?

Out of any, none, just Denmark or even better, the People of Greenland.

Do China or Russia actually have any *sensible* designs on it, or is it just another Trump/U.S. vanity project?

Why on earth does it have to be any of them?
Russia have their hands full with Ukraine and China’s focus is on Tawain.
So for me the answer is Denmark, with the only people eligible to determine a different future for Greenland being the Greenlanders.
Only yesterday a poll had them over 85% against a US takeover.

If you've noticed there has been some territorial wranglings from both Russia and China in recent years.

I think it's strategically placing each country in the best 'defensive position' .

USA also sees that, hence Greenland aspirations

The infrastructure required to turn Greenland into any kind of strategic/defensive position would be as astronomically expensive and environmentally damaging as mining it.

It's political grandstanding from the US, as per.

The US is already able to station troops their and has a number of mothballed bases.
There is absolutely zero need for Trump's expansionism.
The best people to control Greenland are the Danes with significant input from the people of Greenland.

And that is one of the biggest issues - he acts like a mobster and criminal (because that is what he is).
You do not threaten your allies in the way he does, and then claim that they would not come to the US's defence under Article 5, when those other NATO members already have, Denmark in particular.

Trump is a lunatic and therefore extremely dangerous.
Rubio is a nut job, totally deranged.
Vance is pure evil.

They don't control it. Also the Greenlanders have in recent times expressed the desire to be totally independent of Denmark
