If it became a state, they would get all the same rights.

I suspect that is Trumps aim

Will they though?

I suspect that they won’t become a state, that Greenlanders won’t be afforded the rights of a US citizen.
I suspect they will become, in effect, illegals in their homeland.

There is their negotiating angle. You want us make us a State, full rights

What Trump's failed to do so far is to create a wedge issue for any Greenland extremists to see the upside of and rally around.

There was an interesting report the other day about the number of indigenous parents being declared as unfit to keep their children with a number being taken away and put up for adoption in mainland Denmark. Other than it disproportionately affecting lower educated people there's not much there in Trump's wheelhouse but he needs to find something.

I think we can forget China. How would they get there? It’s geographical impossible.

Russia could but it would be impossible to take it by force and defend it. Any troops landing by boat would be sitting ducks for US bombs.

They don't control it. Also the Greenlanders have in recent times expressed the desire to be totally independent of Denmark

Why does Tumptonia need to control Greenland?

China's "invasion" plans are limited to areas it considers to be historically Chinese. Elsewhere its influence is solely through economic development.

Russia hasn't the military or economic strength to invade. Again, its expansionism is limited to countries which it regards as rightfully within its sphere of influence.

For context, see the Monroe Doctrine (which doesn't mention Greenland).
