High tax countries.

Apart from the Ivory Coast, where 40% of the population live below the poverty line, all those high tax countries have a smaller population than Yorkshire. I'm not against raising taxes but that, plus an abundance of natural resources (often state owned, which helps of course) might account for some of their success.
I do think we can learn a lot from the Scandi countries in terms of state provision but I don't think you can compare us with them.

All poverty stricken?
^_^

In reaction to austerity/increased taxes we next election get Reform, just like the 1930s got Hitler?
In the US Trump promises low taxes.

I have no qualifications in Economics, but, IMHO, one of the problems with making such comparisons, is that, in Economics, cause and effect are often separated by a considerable period of time. Thus, say, just because a Country is "low tax" and it's citizens affluent (or poverty stricken) does not necessarily suggest a causal connection.
