I'm just curious as my mother was born in Walton-on-Thames but despite living in Scotland for the best part of seventy years still sounds hewm counties.

No offence taken. My point was about whether it had to be Welsh or posh. There are "posh" variations of both the Scottish and Welsh accents, as there are these days with a (NW) Surrey regional accent.
