That's not a political editor's job: it *should* be to ask "Why is this b'stard lying to me?", whatever party they are from, especially the ones who lie so frequently and easily.

Saw him on BBC News this evening interviewing Färage and no teal questioning, just giving Fârage a platform for his "the establishment is out to get me".

I happened to watch BBC 18:00 news yesterday (not by choice) and the item about the Met Office releasing that this year was the "Hottest summer Ever" (in the UK) yet the newsreader was calling it "warmest" - despite the graphic in the background saying "hottest". Struck me as using "warm" was underplaying the impact somewhat.

People continually ignore the reason 1976 is always quoted is because it was so rare. It had a long drought as conditions were already dry at the start of the summer. It was the only year between 1958 and 1990 where temperatures exceeded 35 degrees. It has happened something like 6 or 7 times in the last 10 years but some people will just say “it’s summer, we’ve always had it, remember 1976?”. Morons

Even the Telegraph are reporting the drop to a six-year low.

Even with full report on the news there was several minutes of reporting before a brief acknowledgment that it isn’t all going the way of the smugglers who are low on boats and having to club together with previous rival gangs and that crossings are down (not mentioning that is despite very kind summer conditions but adding that ‘thousands’ are still crossing). Also, if he knew he’d be wading into the sea why didn’t he dress more appropriately?

Occasionally, our echo chamber needs a reality check. If they did this sort of thing to anyone they want to speak to again, it would be a bad idea. So although Borat and Dennis Pennis did some brilliant interviews, they were all one-offs.

Sure, and that "I'll ask the questions no-one else dares ask" while in character certainly has its place, but when the answer to "Why don't you come by legal routes" is simply "Because there aren't any", it suggests that the reporter has done a worse job than one of the comedy interviewers. If the BBC were giving equal weight to how much small boat crossings have come down, I might not be quite so critical, but it just comes across as scripted by Reform, to keep scaring white grannies.
