I wonder if the driver reacted out of panic.

It doesn’t explain how he came to be in a closed section of road but the witnesses state (with supporting video on BBC) that before the incident many people surrounded the car, banging on it and rocking on it. The driver tried to reverse but struck an ambulance and then travelled forward through the crowd.

Yes, exactly my thought.
I mean, it sounds like he drove carelessly to start with, but then the effect of multiple drunk men banging on (and rocking) his car - including one pulling his door open - would very likely panic even a sensible driver.

Tragic, glad no-one was killed.

That was my exact thoughts when I saw the video. An error of judgment magnified enormously by panic.

Just plodding along as always.
Which may be, but why try driving in that in the first place, unless he was very, very desperate to get somewhere?

Besides, surely discussing it with the Police before moving off would have helped if his journey had been absolutely vital?

If you want pure speculation without any evidence then it may be as simple as an impatient self-entitled driver in the first instance.

I know, I was just idly speculating (just as you guys are about him panicking 🤷‍♂️) on the off - chance that there was something I'd missed.

I have a friend on Facebook and already she's stirring up nonsense about it. I am not the kind to make wild speculations about such things though.

BBC reporting the driver has been arrested for attempted murder and for driving under the influence of drugs.
The car entered the cordon by following an ambulance, which was being allowed through to deal with an emergency.

No doubt the online conspiracy theorists are boiling that the bloke is a Niggly Fartrage fan, a Brexshit voting gammon. Such people need to be deported, to Rwanda or somewhere.

Note: the above may or may not be entirely serious.

They so want it to be a Muslim asylum seeker.
They are disappointed that it isn’t.

We are in an age where the colour of the person who did the crime is more important than the actual crime.

A GB news "reporter" asked Starmer about the police saying early on that the guy was white sounded annoyed that the prompt announcement scuppered GB News' dog whistling.

The problem now is that what do the police do when the next incident occurs involving a foreign national?
They can’t win either way, as the racists have stacked the cards.

Pretty much. They are never going to be able to stop social media chatter so they might as well say something ridiculous like,

"The suspect is believed to be an overgrown slice of ham planted by a deepfake AI pro vegetable lobbyist who may or may not live on the moon"

At least that'd be funny to watch online with all the hysterical bullsh!t,

"Police SLAMMED as the suspect is REVEALED as a GENETICALLY MODIFIED EGG from MARS. The LEFT is in MELTDOWN!"

Or something along those lines.

The BBC has once again disappeared up it's own a*se reporting the incident. Endless repetition and blather. Almost like they're trying to prove they're taking it seriously because the report lasted 25 minutes or more.
