Given that none of the cabinet have ever helped run a private business, and so many MPs are career politicians, I really don't think that would be a good idea. Lawyers also don't seem to be good decision makers, a career path also used by many MPs.

No problem having advisers on specialist/technical matters where you cannot expect MPs to have all the knowledge but they should be asked for advice to help put the decisions in context. Running a private business is not the same as running a country as shown by people like Rees-Mogg (and Trump in the US), but I agree that too many politicians go into politics via the intern/political researcher/TU route straight from university. I am not sure the lawyer background matters as I am not sure there is any evidence that lawyers are poor decision makers.

Rod Liddle is a prat but he does have a way with words.

Anyone else get Barry Bloody Manilow stuck in their head when seeing this thread title?

Along with an image of Diane Morgan doing that silly walk.

I wasn't until I saw this. I now have that song stuck in my head. I hate you
Here you go - enjoy! (My first thought on watching this is - why is he sitting so high above the piano? It looks incredibly uncomfortable)

I don't know whether this episode will see the downfall of Starmer. In many ways I hope not to be honest (least shoot option and all that)

One thing I would say in Starmer's defence is that when asked in PMQs yesterday "did you know that Mandleson was staying in the apartment of convicted Epstein?", Starmer, straight away, answered "yes".

I'm pretty sure none of the past three Tory PMs would not have given such a direct and honest answer. Imagine Johnson in the same situation.

Of course, this doesn't excuse his judgement or even competence but it does perhaps show that, when faced with a very uncomfortable question, he has displayed a level of honesty in a PM that I believe has been sadly lacking of late.

Not a fan of Starmer, but, I would agree on those two points!
