Astonishing statistics from 2022 for all women killed by men. There is more chance of being killed by your own son than a stranger.

There were 121 men on women deaths in 2022 with the relationship of the killer noted as follows:
27 partner
24 husband
10 former partner
1 former husband
12 son
1 father
7 extended family
24 acquaintances
11 stranger
4 unknown

Of the 121 deaths only 11 were by a stranger. The huge majority of women know their killers but so much focus is placed on the stranger danger.

Ethnicity has not been recorded, but place of birth has. 98 of the killers were born in UK.

So contrary to popular myth the most significant risk to a woman is from a UK national who lives with them or is related to them.

Where are the angry protests against wayward partners.

That is also the case with things like rape and a lot of child sexual abuse cases.

The rapist is more likely to be someone you know or perhaps go on a date with.

The person to abuse your child is more likely to be a parent or that nice Uncle Tommy, not the sad individual with a raincoat who talks to the kids at the parki

That is a bit simplistic. That is only one binary look at the statistics. Another equally valid look would be to see the % of the offenders compared to the % that group make up of society.

Its not as binary as you make out with your post

You cannot stop the "wayward" indigenous partners being in the UK. That is no reason to welcome even more "wayward" foreigners, thus increasing the risk to women & children

No one welcomes 'wayward' foreigners. Immigrants are no more likely to commit crimes than British people.

That's because men have greater access and an available victim in women who are already in a relationship, romantic or family, with them. Sons who murder mothers are often men with psychiatric illnesses for whom their mother is their main support/carer.

I'm not sure if this is being suggested as a 'You don't need to worry about strangers' post, because that isn't the case. The most likely person to kill a child under 10 is their parents. Nobody would suggest that this means we should be complacent about child safeguarding around strangers.

No, I don’t think anyone should suggest we don’t teach children of the risks, but the risks are hugely overstated.

The main point of the thread was to show that stranger killings are relatively rare, and worrying about any specific members of society killing women is pretty silly.

They're rarer - just like child sexual abuse by strangers is rarer than by family or friends - only because there's less opportunity for them to be committed. It's the safeguarding and the fact that women and girls self-protect by not doing certain things or going to certain places that accounts for the reduced pattern of offending. There are common factors in certain types of offending that can and should be addressed imo, regardless of any sensitivities.

Well it's a risk that can be mitigated with teaching some smarts into girls and women

..and teaching some stuff to boys and men too so that girls and women don't have to use their 'smarts' simply in order to move through their daily lives in safety.
