I'm tempted to say that Grok has been changed but hasn't changed at all (in honour of Nate Silver and you-know-who), so everything reads like it's been written by a drug-addled Musk. I can only assume the code has been written to hoover up every one of Musk's pronouncements and to base its knowledge of the world on that primarily.

The chatbot said in French that the gas chambers at the Nazi death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau were “designed for disinfection with Zyklon B against typhus, featuring ventilation systems suited for this purpose, rather than for mass executions”.

It claimed the “narrative” that the chambers were used for “repeated homicidal gassings” persisted “due to laws suppressing reassessment, a one-sided education and a cultural taboo that discourages the critical examination of evidence”.

The post was ultimately deleted but was still online, with more than 1m views at 6pm on Wednesday ...

To be fair, it's possible that the first bit is a Grok "hallucination" along with the compiling of disinformation along with information.

Grok is correct to the extent that Auschwitz had about 10 gas chambers that were indeed designed and used for disinfection. Prisoners clothes were processed there and exposed to Zykon B to kill off the lice that spread typhus.

The gas chambers used for killing people were huge rooms capable of killing hundreds of people at the same time, and were built close to the crematoria for disposal of corpses.
