Precisely. That's why any scheme needs to appear fair to the major players, otherwise it's likely to fail.

The major players, and I don't include us in that, will do what they think is right for them and not just whether we, as a very small player, does the same or more. They will look first at those in the top ten of global polluters, particularly those they see as their competitors. We still labour under this misapprehension of our importance to the rest of the world, especially post Brexit when we cannot even influence Europe.

Fairness is always important but it doesn't necessarily mean parity.

Statement of the bleedin' obvious. I wasn't even thinking of the UK.

The fact that the newly-industrialised countries, often referred to as the South, are creating more pollution than us, does not make us ''small players'' because we are getting those countries to service our needs and desires. If we made our own white goods, our own phones and computers, we'd no longer be such small players. Though this would reduce the carbon burden of shipping the finished goods over to us. It's like the head is in the north and it's telling the mouth what to consume while blaming the South for the farts.

If we "need" it, we need it, but, we can curb our desires, I agree.

Can't we (ie "the world", not just the UK) do more than one thing, ie, curb our desires, and reduce emissions by, for example, using none CO2 producing renewables, and, whatever other emission reducing techniques may be available

That's what I was alluding to in post #944.

I would be happier if we had more industry to produce our goods and grow more food rather than import it, but I am lucky to be well off enough to not worry about paying a bit more for food and goods. That would also have the undesirable effect of us increasing our own emissions to increase production. Heads we lose, tails we win...or vice versa, or it's a zero sum game for the world.

But we are where we are and I am not sure that telling the countries that make our goods and export our food that we don't want them anymore would go down too well. They have the right to make their own decisions.

There's a farm expedition planned to see this particular offering..

The fact that so much gammony froth has arisen on the back of it must mean it's worth a watch right??

💃🌈🙏🏼🍆🎠💃

Well, according to the BBC or was it ITV , News, it has “frothed” the “Arab world” (their words). Apparently it promotes homosexuality and violates their ethics, according to the report.

The major players...

The major players will all be flipping pigeons by the end of the decade.
Yes, I know; I just fancied starting a post with the words "The major players" as it sounds quite grown up.
I'll be slipping the term "zero sum game" into a post shortly: keep your eyes peeled.

And that would never fit the image, would it?

My eyes will be like half-eaten satsumas.

Tell me more about this activity! Is it like cow-pushing? (Or badger-baiting? :-/ ) Is there coverage on "specialist" websites?

Or is it some high-flying euphemism - like dead-cat bounces?
