Last week in parliament, the Children's Wellbeing & Schools Bill was presented for a Second Reading.

The Conservatives and Reform Party both supported what they kept calling an amendment for a national statutory Inquiry. This after one previous national inquiry - the Jay report - and nine local reports including the widely acclaimed Telford Report which led to action which has been described as 'gold standard' for its outcomes.

They attempted to shout down Keir Starmer when saying in parliament that this is a 'wrecking motion'. I don't read all the papers it's true, but I haven't seen a report that accurately sets out what occurred. I hope the following helps to set the record straight. The following is the first line of the so-called 'amendment', the text of which I have not seen in print from the press, but has been made available by one MP.

That this House, while welcoming measures to improve child protection and safeguarding, declines to give a Second Reading to the Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill ...

Thankfully, the motion was voted down, but I feel it important that the public know the truth of this matter. Following Musk's intervention, these two parties purposefully played political football with the safeguarding of children in order to seek to damage the reputations of their opponents, by attempting to block a Bill intended for safeguarding. They had an opportunity to push for amendments to the Bill, instead they sought to block it entirely.

As politics tend to boil my blood these days, I try to involve myself less. Musk is indeed a very dangerous man, but so are the right-wing goons in our parliament.

I am furious with my MP for supporting the 'amendment' and voting with the scum who attempted this. The sooner the whip system is removed from our parliament the better.

Rant over, thank you for reading if you made it this far.
