North Shields has a pretty busy high street, despite the void left by Wilko.
Superdrug, Peacocks, Holland & Barratt, Boots, Iceland, Dicksons, Asda, EE, CEX, Home Bargains and B&M all exist quite happily alongside a couple charity shops, a greengrocer, butcher, cafes, pubs and arty venues.
Sure, there are some empty units, but overall it's decent and while not what people might call "thriving" it certainly isn't dead.
