I think it's just that Starmer has a kneejerk response to whatever is making the news. Look at the attention he gave the tv show Adolescence, meeting the production staff and wanting it shown in schools, when campaigners have been going on about the same issues for years.

In a world where Photoshop already exists and when there are already plenty of other ways to generate pornographic and offensive images then I am deep!y suspicious of Starmers's plans to ban X. I'd still be deeply suspicious even this wasn't a government who were cancelling elections, seriously limiting jury trial, planning to introduce digital ID without any mandate and where we are throwing people in prison for using nasty words. Please spare me the infantile replies that have already been aimed at MAG Andy insinuating that I must therefore need a visit from The Plod to check my hard drive. This sort of thingi makes sensible debate impossible (perhaps that's the aim?)

The problem is these accusations about images on Grok are widespread and the same issues have not been raised at the same level about other AI providers, so the 'no smoke without fire' principle pertains. I have no idea of the ability of AI, whether Grok or others, to generate porn or sexualised images, and do not wish to experiment to find out, but wish there was some independent source that could give a valid comparison.

Bringing in Photoshop or other ways of generating porn is no more relevant than raising the possibility of artists drawing pornographic images. AIUI the contentious issue about Grok is ease by which such images can be made, just by written request, by facilities built in to the system.

I am sure some of the criticism (guilty your honour) is amplified because it involves Musk and his hypocricy in saying that he is trying to fight against censorship, while using his personal mouthpiece to censor people that displease him and promote people who please him.

MAGAndy is of course brought into the debate because of his blind acceptance that the sun shines out of Musk's a*se.

Yup. The Photoshop angle is bollocks, you have to actually know how to use it to make weird/offensive/sexual images that don't look terrible, rather than just typing a prompt into AI. Although the generative AI fill they introduced recently does make things a bit easier.

X UK revenues drop nearly 60% in a year as content concerns spook advertisers
UK revenues at Elon Musk’s X fell by almost 60% in a year as advertisers pulled their spending over concerns about the social media platform’s content.
...
In the UK, the social media site recorded a 58.3% fall in revenues from £69.1m in 2023 to £28.9m last year, according to the latest financial figures published at Companies House covering the year to 31 December 2024.
This performance from the amazing businessman so admired in some circles. Well, he's certainly doing something (just not something right).

The point being that as AI become s more and more embedded in the world we live in then the ability of perverts to use Grok for nefarious means will be the tip of a very, very large iceberg. If you don't think Starmer has an ulterior motive for banning a platform where people can readily criticise his government then I have a bridge to sell you.

Good job I didn't mention Starmer and was just making a point about Photoshop comparisons not making much sense...

I mean, Twitter could prevent their site generating these images.

Rather than making us guess could you please specify what this ulterior motive is as there are many other popular platforms, including tiny, niche cycling forum offshoots, where people can, and do, slag him off.

X has Global reach and influence and is one of the main p!affirms used by journalists and other interested parties to share ideas and criticisms of Starmers government. Cycle Chat not so much. In fact there's only a tiny handful of people here criticising Labour

So, the answer is for X to sort out this problematical issue with Grok, yes?
No reason it can’t remain in the UK as a place to discuss and share right wing ideas and debate then.

If he bans X paedos will still have access to similar means of getting their kicks but he will also have stamped out a means of holding his government to account. It's called using a sledgehammer to miss a nut.
