Maybe, just maybe, you'd have a different outlook if you were a woman who'd been the subject of domestic violence.

An interesting viewpoint. Does this apply to the subject of any condition?

For example:

The expression "I nearly had a heart attack" is infamy common use, to denote a surprise or shock, is it offensive to people who HAVE had a heart attack?

The expression "adventure before dementia" is often seen on the back of camper vans or Motorhomes, is it offensive to people who HAVE dementia?

Is being a woman a 'condition'?

In the originally quoted post, the "woman" was the subject.

The word "condition" applied to the domestic violence bit. But, being an ignorant northerner with no education, I could not think of a suitable word to cover domestic violence / heart attack / dementia or any possible thing that could befall a person. "Condition" was the best I could do. Perhaps, you could oblige 😂

Are you implying that domestic violence just happens, like a heart-attack happens? Or, to put it another way, there's a category error in your list.

Some heart attacks may "just happen", others, may, if the "experts" are to be believed may be life style induced. I am not a medical expert, or, an expert in domestic violence (as a victim, or, a perpetrator), so, I couldn't really comment further.

You might remember that Frankie Boyle had more than a little pushback when he made a 'joke' about Downs syndrome.

I do like offensive humour when its well done, and the 'victims' of the humour are being targeted for their choices - including religion. Humour should offend when necessary. But if the humour is reliant totally on someone's unchosen condition (e.g. illness, disability), victimhood (e.g. rape, domestic violence etc), or race etc., then I'm not going to find it funny. Call it woke if you like. Or you might call it empathy.

It's a different matter if the joke/humour is told by someone who comes from one of those types of categories, and we're effectively laughing with them, rather than at them. I think laughing at the possibility of our own dementia comes under this category - it's a way of dealing with the terrifying prospect. Making jokes *about* people with dementia... nope sirree.

Would you say that domestic violence is 'life-style induced' then? Because otherwise I don't see the relevance of the comparison.

Classic is male. He's very pro men's rights in fact.
First part is right. As for the second, well...

As a person who falls into one of those groups that you feel shouldn't be seen, heard or allowed near any normal person, your stance is at times impossible to follow.
And for the avoidance of any doubt, I'm living with a disability that impacts, at times, more than it should because of other peoples opinions.
