Ah, apols. I know modding is hard, but sometimes they make it harder for themselves... they seem to have backed themselves into a bit of a corner on that one.

I don't see what they've done wrong here; they deleted post(s) that in their view were offensive (and presumably had been reported), but refused a request to close the thread, which for the most part was just harmless (if irreverent, in a Father-Ted-style way) fun and wordplay.

...in the sense if they are doing joke-by-joke deletion of things they find offensive, their sense of offence won't align with everyone else's, especially where religion is involved.

You implied that the complainant was of the same persuasion as the one that complained about your joke.

My point still stands. Although as I'm sure you are well aware, it's usually leftie wokey twats who make up the majority of the easily offended.

Two things:
- as I said, I'm guessing the deletions followed Reports. May be wrong.
- isn't that just run-of-the-mill Moderation for you, with all the normal burdens? They setup guidelines, but there will always be subjective decisions. No? 🤷‍♀️

In the case of numbnuts, I think his issue is not that he is offended, but, a perceived lack of spreading the piss taking across all religions.

I could be wrong, it has been known. 😊

That's the excuse he gives.

I've said similar before when making silly jokes about Easter chocolate, but if your religion is so big and important that the death of the top bloke makes front page news for days on end and world leaders attend his funeral, not to mention the spectacle around the appointment of his successor, then you're not exactly a persecuted minority and you might do well to have a bit of humility.

It's not the seventeenth century any more, nobody's getting drawn and quartered, it's a bit of gentle piss taking against one of the wealthiest and most powerful institutions in the world.

But of course I can't exactly write all this on the main forum.

There is an argument for closing all threads about religion and moving them over here, but I don't think stupid puns really cross the threshold. Discussion around the church's complicity in paedophilia and pederasty I would say does though, and I would suggest that could include jokes.
