I think the Gell-Mann Amnesia effect perfectly sums up the interaction between people and AI. I think it needs a more catchy name though like the Penguin Paradox.

Haha.

Just as well we've got AI to do the maffs for us.

If this is actually someone with a PhD, I'd be tempted to suggest he doesn't have the faintest clue about learning and understanding. If someone with a PhD thinks that the doctoral thesis is the most important part of the process, not the cognitive development of the person researching and writing it, then he's an idiot. 'Grunt work', as he calls it, *is the whole point*. And if he really is a professor, and I were managing the academic staff, I'd be terminating his employment at the earliest opportunity.

Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini could've done it in weeks.
Would it have been correct though? Completion ≠ success.

Sure AI can only call on the "Grunt work" to a certain extent as it draws on the aggregate of available knowledge. "Research" is adding to that knowledge

And that's only part of it. Knowledge is useless without understanding.

I know that.

I'm currently generating a promotional video for a choir concert using a text to video app in Canva. It does all the theme stuff like lighting and colour schemes well but seems to have a problem when adding text. You would think it would simply copy it from the prompts I've typed but it changes spellings, mixes up names etc. I then re-run the same prompt and it will fix a previous error with no input from me but makes something else wrong instead. Very frustrating

I'm coming to the conclusion that AI is pickling the brains of all its owners and proponents. Human intelligence is one of the greatest miracles of the entire universe, but they want to pretend that they can turn it into a utility like iTunes where you don't actually own the thing that is yours. It's what makes each one of us who we are. They can FRO. Now would be as good a time as any.
