I tend to think of the pharmaceutical companies whose produce can also have serious, even fatal effects on people. Would we be happy with a new drug being released for widespread use that could have massive devastating impacts on people without any regulation and just the pharmaceutical company saying "trust us", we've checked it and it meets our goals for our interests. No regulation, no transparency, just that it meats their aims and objectives.

I think that's where the headbanging right wing in the US would like the world to be. No government regulation, just trust the companies to self-regulate against risks & known dangers, the only measure of the success of which is maintaining profitability and not how few people they kill and maim.

The US detests regulation. Their strategy is risk getting it wrong followed by massive lawsuits, rather than ensuring it is right in the first place. Being a lawyer can be very lucrative.

For anybody concerned (and with some time to spare), Microsoft are trying to create a Code of Condict for their AI operations and it's open for consultation. But it's an involved document but they are looking for feedback and have provided easy and anonymous means to submit feedback (literally virtually nothing other than typing in your feedback).

To be fair, Gemini's effort of a 13A plug wiring diagram is better than the efforts of several months ago, even if they'd have been better just finding a reliable image source so the earth element wasn't incorrect in precise configuration.
