What is it with right wing politicians and their word salads?^_^

To be fair, Thatcher had quite a brain and ability to elucidate her thoughts. I think I've linked this before, but it really is worth a read, even if you hate(d) her, and aren't Christian.

"Nevertheless, the Tenth Commandment—Thou shalt not covet—recognises that making money and owning things could become selfish activities. But it is not the creation of wealth that is wrong but love of money for its own sake. The spiritual dimension comes in deciding what one does with the wealth. How could we respond to the many calls for help, or invest for the future, or support the wonderful artists and craftsmen whose work also glorifies God, unless we had first worked hard and used our talents to create the necessary wealth? And remember the woman with the alabaster jar of ointment.

I confess that I always had difficulty with interpreting the Biblical precept to love our neighbours “as ourselves” until I read some of the words of C.S. Lewis. He pointed out that we don't exactly love ourselves when we fall below the standards and beliefs we have accepted. Indeed we might even hate ourselves for some unworthy deed.

None of this, of course, tells us exactly what kind of political and social institutions we should have. On this point, Christians will very often genuinely disagree, though it is a mark of Christian manners that they will do so with courtesy and mutual respect. [Applause] What is certain, however, is that any set of social and economic arrangements which is not founded on the acceptance of individual responsibility will do nothing but harm."

Some weird reasoning here from Badenoch, even if you ignore her glaring omission of nuclear energy in any form. From her Telegraph piece today.

To me also shows that she does not understand "global pricing" ie if gas prices increase UK pays the higher price irrspective as to whther the gas is coming from domestic sources or being purchased from eg Gulf States.

Almost Trumpian in the way a load of random words have been thrown together. She also seems to be completely missing the point that the current spikes in oil and gas prices are one of the reasons we need to move away from reliance on them. The old ‘but China are using coal’ thing too when they are also making huge investments in renewables.

Now the definition of 'lowering taxes' *either* means that they don't go up as much as the worst Reform council tax, *or* that they don't go up as much as inflation. Brilliant.

Like the large number of politicians who talk about how they are addressing the "Cost of Living" by reducing inflation, failing to appreciate that any above 0% inflation means prices are going up and Cost of Living increasing.

I remember having a long chat with a neighbour at the end of Covid. He was looking forward to the prices returning back normal. I think I burst his bubble.
